About the Plugin
Public chat in OSRS only reaches players standing right next to you. Global Chat changes that. How to Install
- Open RuneLite, then click the wrench icon → Plugin Hub.
- Search for "Global Chat" and click Install.
- Enable the plugin and (optionally) configure combat-level filtering or read-only mode in the plugin settings.

How It Works
Global Chat uses Ably, a real-time messaging service, to create one channel per world. When you send public chat, the plugin publishes your message to that channel — every other plugin user in the same world receives it instantly.

Is the plugin safe to install?
Global Chat is distributed exclusively through the official RuneLite Plugin Hub, which means RuneLite's maintainers review every plugin's source for malicious or unsafe code before it ships. The plugin also only reads and rebroadcasts public chat — no input automation, no client modifications outside RuneLite's allowed plugin API. The full source is open on GitHub if you want to read it yourself.
Does it cost anything?
No. The plugin is free and open source. Patreon support is optional and funds the Ably hosting bill that keeps the messaging service running.
What data is shared?
Only your message content and your RuneScape username, scoped to your current world channel. No IP addresses, account info, or location data. Messages aren't stored anywhere — they pass through Ably and are gone.
Why is one world busier than the others?
Network effect — World 491 became the default meetup spot. The plugin works on any world; it's just more fun where the people are.
